Ep 005: From Judgement to Power: A Modern Medicine Woman’s Story
In this episode of Consciously in Business, Starre Tearney sits down with Carlene Kanellis, Modern-day Medicine woman and breathwork practitioner, for a deep conversation about what it really takes to build a soul-led business in integrity.
Together, they explore the inner work behind sustainable success — from navigating imposter syndrome and ancestral fear, to honoring lineage, setting energetic boundaries, and resisting extractive or hustle-based business models.
This conversation is an honest look at what happens when your calling doesn’t fit neatly into a box — and why nervous system awareness, embodiment, and sovereignty are essential for entrepreneurs doing heart- and soul-led work.
The difference between mindset blocks vs. ancestral and somatic patterns
Imposter syndrome as a natural response to expansion, not failure
Honoring spiritual lineage and integrity in healing and business work
Why inner work must include the body and nervous system, not just mindset
Masculine structure vs. feminine rhythm in sustainable business
How rest, boundaries, and seasonal pacing prevent burnout
Setting energetic boundaries as a healer, coach, or intuitive
Navigating judgment, misunderstanding, and visibility online
What it takes to keep showing up when quitting feels tempting
Trusting intuition while building real-world systems and support
You can’t out-think patterns that live in the body or nervous system
Rest is not a reward — it’s a requirement for sustainable leadership
Boundaries are not limitations; they are what create sovereignty
Being misunderstood is often a sign you’re stepping into your true work
Inner work is the foundation of aligned, embodied success in business

The Heart of the Womb retreat in Lake Atitlán, Guatemala, May 17–25, 2026. This is a 9-day immersion into the heart of San Marcos, where we work with Mayan midwives and medicine women in womb healing, ceremony, reclaiming power and voice, breath, and time to come home to self. We stay in luxury accommodations right on the lake with a private chef preparing three nourishing meals a day of local cuisine. This retreat is for women looking to connect or reconnect with their feminine power, their womb-space—whether physical or not—those struggling with womb issues, or those who simply feel the call. I'm only taking 8 women. It's all-inclusive (airfare and travel fees not included). This is transformative work, more of an immersion than a vacation.
